Selenium Mastery Path¶
Most Selenium tutorials show one script that clicks one button and call it done — and then never explain why that exact same script starts failing intermittently a week later. This course builds the real thing: a real local Flask application built specifically as a test target (forms, dynamic content, alerts, iframes, stale elements, shadow DOM), a real Chrome WebDriver session driving it through every lesson, and the real waits, Page Object Model structure, and Selenium Grid setup that turn a fragile one-off script into a maintainable test framework.
This course was written and run against a real local Flask test-target app and a real local Chrome WebDriver session — no mocked browser, no screenshots standing in for an actual click. Every locator, every wait, every "it broke because of a real race condition" finding in this course comes from an actual WebDriver session driving an actual local web page.
It assumes basic Python comfort and does not re-teach general software testing fundamentals (test case design, the defect lifecycle, manual testing) or deep framework topics like BDD/Cucumber, API testing, or mobile testing — those are already covered well by the Java Testing and Python Testing Mastery Paths, which both include their own introductory Selenium touches. This course goes deep specifically on Selenium WebDriver itself — locator strategies, real synchronization, Page Object Model, and Selenium Grid — in a way those broader courses don't have room for. For a modern alternative to Selenium with a different automation model, see the Playwright Mastery Path, which this course compares against honestly in its final level.
How the program is organized¶
| Level | Focus | Modules | What you can do after |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · WebDriver Fundamentals & Locators | Sessions, locator strategies, element interaction | 10 | Drive a real browser and locate/interact with any real element |
| 2 · Waits, Synchronization & Robust Interactions | Implicit/explicit waits, alerts, iframes, windows, Actions API | 10 | Write tests that don't break on real timing and dynamic content |
| 3 · Page Object Model & Test Architecture | POM, fixtures, cross-browser, screenshots, flaky-test diagnosis | 10 | Structure a real, maintainable Selenium test suite |
| 4 · Selenium Grid, Scaling & Production Practices | Grid architecture, parallel execution, CI, Selenium vs Playwright | 10 | Scale and ship a real Selenium framework in production |
Each level has 9 teaching modules plus a hands-on project (module 10), for 40 lessons total.
How to use this site¶
- Run it yourself. A real local Flask app (
pip install flask selenium) and Chrome (Selenium Manager handles the driver automatically) are all this course's core lessons need — no cloud testing service, no paid Grid, no account. - Read the "What was run" note at the top of each lesson. The overwhelming majority of this course's locators, waits, and test results come from a real, observed WebDriver session against a real local page; anything that genuinely couldn't be run locally (a real Selenium Grid cluster across machines, a specific unavailable browser) says so plainly.
- Do the "predict, then run" exercises. Selenium has several behaviors (race conditions without waits, stale element references, iframe context switching) that are easy to miss from reading alone and genuinely clarifying to watch happen against a real page.
- Do the projects. Each one is a real, runnable test script or framework against the real local test app, not a diagram.
